Expert by experience on health & care systems, I have embarked on freelance life following 32 years working in the health and care system, most recently having served as the Nuffield Trust Director of Strategy for 7 years. I am widely recognised as an expert in healthcare management, policy analysis and strategic planning.
During my career, I have held a range of positions that have given me deep experience of healthcare strategy and policy development, and of implementation and change management. Prior to joining the Nuffield Trust I worked at Board level in the NHS for 15 years followed by 5 years in senior executive roles at Monitor and NHS Improvement. Initially qualifying in finance, over the years I have held pretty much every portfolio at the Board table not requiring a clinical qualification!
At the Nuffield Trust, I played a pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s strategic direction and informing policy recommendations aimed at improving delivery and outcomes in the health and care system. I have particular expertise in the development and implementation of strategies leading to the clear delivery of outcomes. I also focus on the development of effective partnerships within organisations and across systems, including public-private partnerships and partnerships between public bodies and the populations they serve.
I continue to be actively involved in a range of advisory boards, committees and professional networks. I am very proud to chair National Voices, the leading coalition of health and social care charities in England, and I am a Trustee of the Royal Voluntary Service and a Non Executive Director of the Private Healthcare Information Network.
My passion for improving healthcare quality and access remains unabate and I hope to continue to be a driving force in shaping the future of healthcare in the United Kingdom and beyond.
